Carl Ostermann Erben GmbH: Moiré-free images in flexographic printing
Carl Ostermann Erben GmbH (COE) with locations in Bremen and Stuttgart is presenting Bellissima DMS screening technology at the UV Days at IST Metz (May 13-16, 2019) . The prepress specialist has been an official partner of Aniken Graphics International LLP since the beginning of last year and since then has been producing printing plates for the German label market that are manufactured using Bellissima DMS screening.
The family-owned company is showing the specialist audience opportunities at the UV Days at Stand D that result from the new technology for customers. “The screen technology, which is available exclusively via COE, enables the previous foundations in flexographic printing, such as the display of motifs with typical flexo points, to be abolished, so that images without a moiré effect are possible. Multi-color printing of small fonts is also possible with Bellissima, ”explains Michael Halfar, Business Development Manager at COE. In addition, the highly specialized prepress company has also developed a camera-based flexo plate recognition, which runs under the name “coe cam”.
What is Bellissima DMS?
Bellissima is said to be able to produce prints with screen rulings from 138 to 178 L / cm without color shifting with register offset. By using a fixed color palette, the screening should deliver smooth surface rendering and moiré-free prints. Vignettes run harmoniously, highlights are 1% and solid tones are 99.5%.
According to the developer (Aniken Graphics International LLP is a joint venture between Hamillroad Software, UK, and Apex International), the patented screening works “optimally” at 4,000 dpi and offers functions such as screening options and protection for full areas. Common problems with printing machines such as bouncing, barring or slur should be reduced or even eliminated. Bellissima DMS also enables savings in printing inks that can be increased using GCR-based software, thereby improving the efficiency of existing equipment in the pressroom.
Carl Ostermann Erben GmbH produces clichés, sleeves and sieves. At the locations in Bremen and Stuttgart, 54 employees produce just-in-time printing forms, mainly for flexographic and letterpress printing, and prepare data for digital printing. National and international customers are label printers, packaging printers and branded companies. Other main customers of COE are manufacturers of flexible packaging, pharmaceutical and tissue products. The company has existed for 128 years in 2019. Managing Directors are Andreas Segelken and Holger Ostermann.
