OS 9 (note that files and folders under OS 9 can only be shared using AFP)

1. In the “Control Panel” (“File Sharing”) under the “Start/Stop” tab, enter some “Network Identity” details and make sure “File Sharing on” has been “Start”ed.
2. In the “Control Panel” (“File Sharing”), under the “Users & Groups” tab, create a “New User” and “New Group” (both) called “HqnRIP” with a password.
3. Locate your RIPs Page Buffer folder and go Apple-I (Finders “File” menu – “General Information”) on it.
4. Select “Sharing” from the popup menu and make sure that “Share this item and its contents” is checked.
5. Change the “Owner” and “User/Group” to be “HqnRIP” and change the “Privileges” to be “Read & Write” for at least the “Owner” and “User/Group”.

OS X (SMB – requires Windows File Sharing to be enabled)

This is easily accomplished by using the “HMR PGBShare Installer” code provided, which you go “Print File…” with on your Harlequin RIP. This shares the Harlequin RIP Page Buffer folder (as HqnRIP) with Full Read/Write permissions. You can then access/mount this share on your Mac (OS X) or PC running FirstPROOF. If you change your Page Buffer folder, simply go “Print File…” again and it automatically updates the share. See the Product Downloads page where you can download this.

Note that to use this you need to enable Windows File Sharing on the Mac.

Alternatively (required for TIFF, LEN or RAS files)

1. Log in to your OS X computer as user “HqnRIP” – short name “hqnrip” – an account you use for running the Hqn RIP.
2. In System Preferences (Services tab), make sure that both “Personal File Sharing” and “Windows File Sharing” are ‘On’.
3. In System Preferences (Firewall tab), make sure that both “Personal File Sharing” and “Windows File Sharing” are ‘Allowed’ (if “Firewall” is ‘on’).
4. Make sure that the users who are going to use FirstPROOF have accounts and can log in:
   • On OS X 10.2 this is set up in the Accounts area of the System Preferences – “Users” tab, “Edit User…”, “Allow user to log in from Windows”.
   • On OS X 10.4 this is set up in the Sharing area of the System Preferences – “Services”, “Windows Sharing”, “Accounts…”.
5. In the System Preferences (Services tab), it then says how Windows users can access your computer at “\\192.168.0.3\hqnrip” (or similar). (**)
6. In the System Preferences Services tab, it then says how Macintosh users can access your computer at “afp://192.168.0.3/” (or similar).
7. Using Terminal (Applications:Utilities:Terminal) make a soft link from your home folder to that of the RIPs Page Buffer folder. Type: “ln -s /ECRMRIP/SW/PageBuffers .” This link to the PageBuffers folder gets used when accessing the share on Windows, or mounting the share on Mac OS X.

1. In Windows XP, go to “My Network Places.
2. You should see a share “HqnRIP” on your RIPs computer (so already mounted).
3. You will then be able to Configure an Input in FirstPROOF to point to the “HqnRIP” share in “My Network Places”.

1. In Windows XP, go to “My Network Places.
2. Go “Add a network place”.
3. Go “Next”.
4. Select “Choose another network location”.
5. Go “Next”.
6. • Enter the access name “\\192.168.0.3\hqnrip” (change the IP address if required – see (**) above) in the “Internet or network address:” edit box ), or
   • Enter the access name “\\192.168.0.3\HqnRIP (change the IP address if required – see (**) above) in the “Internet or network address:” edit box ), or
   • Select “Browse…” and select “HqnRIP on Your Computer (Computer Name)”. Note you might have to wait for “HqnRIP” to appear (time depends on network), depending on how you shared the PageBuffer folder.
7. Go “Next”.
8. “Type a name for this network place:”, e.g. “HqnRIP”.
9. Go “Next”.
10. Go “Finish”.
11. You will then be able to Configure an Input in FirstPROOF to point to “PageBuffers” in the “HqnRIP” share in “My Network Places”.

1. On the “Go” menu select “Connect to Server…”.
2. Choose a domain from the list, e.g. WORKGROUP (default) or OFFICE – Windows sharing.
3. Choose a computer from the new list, e.g. PLATO.
4. Click on “Connect”.
5. Enter a “Username” and “Password” (if required).
6. In the “SMB Mount” dialog, you will then see a list of shares. “Select a share”, e.g. “HqnRIP” (or anything else if you have shared it manually).
7. Click on “OK”.
8. A new share will be mounted on your Desktop called “HQNRIP”.
9. You will then be able to Configure an Input in FirstPROOF to point to “HQNRIP” on your Desktop.

Note that to use this you need to enable Windows File Sharing on the Mac.

1. On the “Go” menu select “Connect to Server…”.
2. Choose a domain from the list, e.g. WORKGROUP (default) or OFFICE – Windows sharing from Mac OS X.
3. Choose a computer from the new list, e.g. SOCRATES.
4. Click on “Connect”.
5. Enter a “Username” – “HqnRIP” – and “Password” (if required).
6. In the “SMB Mount” dialog, you will then see a list of shares. “Select a share” – “hqnrip” or “HqnRIP” (depending on how you shared the PageBuffer folder).
7. Click on “OK”.
8. A new share will be mounted on your Desktop called “HQNRIP”.
9. You will then be able to Configure an Input in FirstPROOF to point to “PageBuffers” in “HQNRIP” on your Desktop.

Note that to use this you need to enable Windows File Sharing on the Mac.

1. On the “Apple” menu select “Chooser”.
2. Select the “AppleShare” icon on the left (in the Chooser).
3. “Select a file server:” (the computer running the RIP) on the right (in the Chooser).
4. Click on “OK”.
5. Enter a user “Name” and “Password”.
6. Click on “Connect”.
7. Select the “HqnRIP” share and click on the checkbox (that says “Checkbox items will be opened at system startup time”).
8. Click on “OK”.
9. You will then be able to Configure an Input in FirstPROOF to point to the “HqnRIP” share on your Desktop.

Note that if you are using multiple Harlequin RIPs (and so multiple shares), you will need to change the name of the share so that it is unique.

1. On the “Go” menu select “Connect to Server…”.
2. Choose the “Local” or “Network” or “My Network” domain from the list (or the computer you want to connect to) – Mac sharing from Mac OS X.
3. Choose a computer from the new list, e.g. Socrates.
4. Click on “Connect”.
5. Enter a user “Name” – “HqnRIP” – and “Password” (if required).
6. Click on “Connect”.
7. “Select the volumes you wish to mount” – should be “Socrates HD” (NOT the “hqnrip” share).
8. Click on “OK”.
9. A new share will be mounted on your Desktop called “Socrates HD”.
10. You will then be able to Configure an Input in FirstPROOF to point to the RIPs Page Buffer folder on Socrates where ever that may be.
