Hamillroad Announces Successful Auraia-II Installations Worldwide

1st March, 2012

CAMBRIDGE, UNITED KINGDOM — Hamillroad Software, a leading RIP and screening innovator, today announced that following the launch of its DM-II screening (released in May 2011) it has successfully sold and installed Auraia into numerous newspaper and commercial printers in Spain, Australia and the UK, with additional installations currently underway in Russia, Mexico, the USA and various other countries.

Spain – Tu Grupo Gráfico (Commercial)

TGG, a large commercial web printer in Spain, used to use a well-known Hybrid XM screen at 350 lpi, however they were struggling to achieve high quality results. Initial testing with Auraia-II showed not only an increase in image quality, but more importantly a significant increase in the smoothness of flat tints (a problem with high-lpi AM/XM screens) along with a predicted increase in ink saving.

Commenting on the upgrade from their XM screen to the Auraia-II DM screen, CEO Juan Antonio Tena said, “Thanks to Auraia-II we can work with our web presses in jobs never dreamed of before. We have gained access to the high-quality market with our sheet-fed offset presses in a smooth way, without any problems or delays in production”.

When asked what he thought of the results, he went on to say “The DM Auraia-II screen is truly revolutionary, achieving a never seen before printing quality with great ease and an impressive control over the printing output.”

Australia – Crystal Media Group (Commercial)

Crystal Media, a commercial printer in Australia used to use a well-known FM screen to print their jobs, however when printing 3d lenticular jobs (an application which is particularly demanding and requires very high-quality screening) they struggled with a number of issues, including hilite dots and ink drying. Initial testing with Auraia-II showed that not only was it capable of holding a complete tonal range of 0% to 100%, but it also increased the effective lpi (to over 400 lpi), dried faster, produced sharper, higher-quality prints and did all of this using a lot less ink (and of course produced extremely smooth flat tints too).

When asked about his view on the difference Auraia had made to his business, Director Gavin Allen said, “Auraia screening is the answer to your prayers if you are looking to get the best results possible from your CTP equipment. It consistently produces printed results of a quality far in excess of what you might think possible using traditional methods. Crystal Media is currently printing jobs that look like 400 line screen on plates that are only rated for 200 lines.”

Spain – La Voz de Galicia (Newspaper)

LVdG, one of the top-ten newspapers in Spain with a daily circulation of 100,000 copies per day used to use a typical newspaper 100 lpi screen. Following successful trials of Auraia-II which showed significantly higher image quality along with lower levels of ink consumption, they purchased several licenses and put it into production.

Commenting on how easy it was to change over from an AM screen to a DM screen and the benefits it gave them, Técnico Subdirector, Mr José Ángel Cabezón, said “It´s easy to use: platemaking is easy, no problems while printing, no problems with dot reproduction. It increases the print quality. Readers and advertisers like more Auraia printed copies than conventional 100lpi copies – it manage better badly registered copies, negative texts, text on photos.”

When pressed further on the visual improvements over what they printed before, he went on to say “We really can appreciate the difference between our common images with 200dpi and the enhanced ones with 578dpi. It is really amazing what we can get with the same paper, ink and press.”

About Auraia-II

The new DM-II screening technology, “Auraia-II”, is a revolutionary new type of screening that enables high-end violet and thermal platesetters to produce images that emulate the quality of a traditional 400-500 lpi screen for commercial printers and 200-250 lpi screen for newspaper printers, whilst also producing rosette-free, moiré-free and noise-free flat tints that equal or better the smoothness of conventional screening. In fact several tests have proved that Auraia-II produces noticeably smoother flat tints than high lpi conventional AM/XM screens. For more information, go to www.hamillroad.com.
